The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently released a Bus Network Redesign Proposal. The proposed changes will meaningfully impact service to Woburn and eliminate the 354 express bus, which provides frequent rapid service between State Street station in Boston and 400 West Cummings Park. The MBTA’s own trip calculator shows that a rider on the 354 express bus now spends 32 minutes between State Street and West Cummings Park (4 stops); the redesign will increase that time to 57 minutes: 38 stops by bus to Malden Center, followed by 6 stops on the Orange Line.
This proposed service reduction will impact many employers in Cummings Park and West Cummings Park. If you and your staff rely on public transportation, we urge you to become informed about the proposed changes, and provide input to the MBTA. Even if your organization does not rely on this service today, many of your business neighbors do, and we hope you will advocate for them so they can keep their restaurants, hotels, and other amenities staffed. We recognize, too, that the ability to attract and retain a superior workforce in the future may rely heavily on dependable public transportation.
