Senior Director of Senior Living - Cummings Foundation

Woburn and Marlborough, Massachusetts

Cummings Foundation seeks an accomplished senior living professional to provide senior-level leadership, oversight, and guidance for its two New Horizons communities. New Horizons at Choate, in Woburn, and New Horizons at Marlborough together serve more than 500 residents through independent living, assisted living, and memory care.

Both communities have strong reputations for high-quality living that emphasizes dignity, comfort, compassion, privacy, and—as much as possible—independence. Cummings Foundation, one of the largest private foundations in New England, owns and operates them, providing uncommon organizational and financial stability.

Each community is led by an experienced executive director responsible for day-to-day operations. The senior director of senior living will work at the organizational level, providing guidance and support to the executive directors and serving as a senior resource on regulatory, operational, risk-management, and other complex matters.

This is an opportunity for an experienced senior living leader to have a meaningful impact across two well-established communities while working within the unusual organizational and financial stability of Cummings Foundation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level oversight, guidance, and support to the executive directors of both New Horizons communities, serving as a trusted resource on significant operational and organizational matters.
  • Lead regulatory and compliance matters, including certification and recertification, regulatory reviews, responses to findings, and ongoing compliance efforts.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of Massachusetts assisted living regulations and industry developments, assess their implications, and advise executive directors and senior leadership accordingly.
  • Review and strengthen policies, procedures, and operating practices to promote consistency, regulatory compliance, sound risk management, and high-quality resident services.
  • Identify emerging operational, regulatory, and risk-management concerns and work with community leadership to address them proactively.
  • Provide experienced judgment and guidance on significant resident, family, personnel, and other sensitive or complex matters.
  • Support major initiatives, special projects, long-range planning, and continuous improvement across both communities.
  • Foster collaboration and sharing of effective practices between the two New Horizons communities while respecting the distinct character and needs of each.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in senior living operations, including substantial experience in a senior leadership role.
  • Significant experience with Massachusetts assisted living operations and regulations; direct experience with the Commonwealth's assisted living certification and regulatory processes strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory reviews, certification processes, policy development, compliance, and risk management.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or advising senior-level managers; multi-community leadership experience is desirable.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive and complex operational matters with professionalism and discretion.
  • A collaborative leadership style and excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High integrity, accountability, and a strong commitment to the well-being of older adults.
