In appreciation of the dedicated service of its valued employees, Cummings Properties annually contributes $1,000 to a local charity of each staff member's choice through the Employee Directed Giving program. Open to all regular full-time employees of Cummings Properties and its affiliated New Horizons retirement communities in Marlborough and Woburn, as well as part-time colleagues with at least five years of seniority, this unique initiative aims to support the communities where staff members live and work. Staff members with at least 10 years of seniority may select two nonprofits for gifts of $1,000 each.
Since 2012, Employee Directed Giving has resulted in nearly $2.25 million in donations to area nonprofits.

Employee Directed Giving is a wonderful opportunity for Cummings employees to support an organization that is meaningful on a personal level. Watch this one-minute video to hear directly from a few colleagues about their heartfelt reasons for selecting their organizations.
To be eligible to receive a $1,000 donation from Cummings Properties, an organization:
Examples: The Company could likely fund your local Little League organization, but could not fund your child’s team specifically, as it probably does not have its own 501(c)(3) designation. The Company could fund the soup kitchen operated by your church, if it serves all comers, but it could not fund the church’s general operations.
Can I select a charity that received a grant in the past?
Yes. Being a past recipient of one or more Employee Directed Giving (EDG) grants from Cummings Properties, or a $100K for 100 grant from Cummings Foundation, does not disqualify a nonprofit from receiving an EDG grant.
Can more than one colleague select the same charity?
Yes. Up to five staff members may select the same nonprofit, allowing for a maximum of $5,000 in donations per organization. Do you want to multiply the impact for your chosen charity? Talk to your coworkers about their favorite nonprofits; if they do not have one, consider asking them to select yours! Once a nonprofit reaches its five-person limit, however, additional colleagues selecting it will be contacted and asked to choose alternate nonprofits.
If I have more than 10 years of seniority, do I have to pick two different nonprofits to receive $1,000 each or may I select one organization to receive $2,000?
In order to expand the benefit of this charitable program, we ask that colleagues do not list the same organization twice in the selection form, but rather list two different nonprofits.
Do I need to make a donation, too?
No. EDG does not require any contribution from staff. This program is separate from and in addition to the Company’s Matching Gifts program.
Can I make my selection at work?
Yes. If you need computer access, visit the front desk of a Cummings or New Horizons office during a break or after work. Employee Directed Giving selections can be entered at work, but research should be done at home.
I am an RFTE, but do not receive company email. May I participate?
Yes, but colleagues must have provided HR with a valid personal email address in order to participate. If you have not yet done so, or if your email address needs updating, please contact HR and provide them with your current email address.
Can my donation go toward a nonprofit membership or tickets for a nonprofit event?
No. While we hope EDG will encourage involvement with local nonprofits, colleagues are prohibited by law from accepting any tangible benefits in return for this donation, such as memberships, gifts, event tickets, tuition credits, etc.
Employee Directed Giving started in 2012 as a pilot program open to colleagues with 10+ years of service. The program was so well received by employees that it has been expanded to be offered each year to all regular full-time employees, regardless of length of service.
Through Employee Directed Giving, the Company seeks to honor the dedication of its staff and give back to the towns and cities that support its business operations.
