June 27, 2002 Subway Selects Two Woburn Locations
Part
of the appeal of the location was said to be the significant renovations
that are underway throughout the seven building complex, including a greatly
expanded new park and picnic area and major facade upgrades. According
to Cummings officials, the extensive improvements are the second phase
in a revitalization project begun last year. Common areas of the buildings
were upgraded in 2001. The
New Boston Street location is slated to open later this summer. Both Woburn
restaurants are said to reflect the most current "Tuscany" design
that the chain has adopted, and will serve a new expanded menu. Founded
in Connecticut in 1965 by 17 year-old Fred DeLuca, Subway currently claims
more than 16,500 locations operating in 73 countries, with more opening
each week. According to the company, there are now more Subway locations
in the United States than McDonalds. Subway joins Finagle-a-Bagel, Acapulco's
and Fresh City among the multistore restaurants in Cummings Properties'
portfolio, with nearly a dozen single location restaurants also in Cummings'
buildings. Mike
Vulcano of Subway's real estate group selected the restaurant locations
and worked with Robert Yacobian, Cummings Properties leasing officer,
on the lease negotiations. According to Yacobian, Subway's site selection
and approval process are quite extensive. John
Wiseman, Cummings Properties leasing manager stated, "We are delighted
to have Subway join the great group of restaurants offering a variety
of food choices to our existing clients, and are pleased that another
national firm has identified Woburn as a place to grow a business."
Privately held Cummings Properties owns, leases and manages more than
eight million square feet of first class commercial office space in 10
communities north of Boston. |
