Independent and Assisted living in Boston Area |

By way of recent history, New Horizons retirement community opened in Marlborough, MA in October 1994. This followed a complete rebuilding of the former Madonna Hall School for Girls, at 400 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA. This independent and assisted living community in Massachusetts is just down the road from Longfellow's historic Wayside Inn, and was earlier the longtime family farm of Marlborough resident Joseph Bouvier, who operated a well-known apple orchard there for decades. New Horizons is a private, non-sectarian community on a delightful 40-acre country campus. Altogether, this New Horizons accommodates up to 500 seniors, and generally has only a short waiting list, or none at all. Seniors enjoy a wide variety of personalized living plans.
The natural beauty of the area offers New Horizons' residents a lovely tranquil environment with lots of broad meadows and other green space for quiet walks, or just sitting with a friend. Assisted and independent living residents come and go as they like on a 24-hour basis, and often journey to shopping areas in Marlborough and Sudbury, MA in New Horizons' brand new private, climatized bus. The beautiful country-like campus is a half mile north of U.S. Route 20, at the end of Wilson Street. New Horizons' Boston retirement community prizes its rich heritage and diversity. New Horizons in Marlborough happens to have a far larger percentage of male residents than any other large, mixed gender retirement community in Massachusetts. Pictured above at a recent Veterans' Day ceremony honoring them are some of the Veterans who now call New Horizons "home".
Although both New Horizons assisted living communities in Massachusetts are entirely nondenominational, the Marlborough campus is one of few communities anywhere to offer both daily Catholic Mass, in its own beautiful 200-seat chapel, and regular on-site Protestant and Jewish services as well. Overall, of those residents who express a religious affiliation, New Horizons residents appear to be about 40 percent Catholic, 30 percent Protestant, 10 percent Jewish and 20 percent other. |

Other special attractions include frequent shopping trips into town, and numerous social and entertainment events, which give residents plenty to do. |

One resident's daughter put it very well. "I started to get puzzled when Mom never seemed to be around to answer the phone anymore. That hadn't happened in years. It took me a while to realize that she now has a life again"! She told us her mom had spent eight years sitting by the phone in case it rang, before moving to New Horizons. |
