Boston assisted living
This section describes both (not-for-profit) New
Horizons retirement communities developed by Cummings Foundation.
New Horizons assisted living in Marlborough, Massachusetts is located
just north of U.S. Route 20. It has a beautiful country setting
near Longfellow's historic Wayside Inn at the end of Wilson Street.
New Horizons at Choate, another Massachusetts assisted
living community, is near historic Horn Pond at 21 Warren Avenue
in Woburn, Massachusetts. New Horizons in Woburn typically has a
waiting list of about three to six months. The recently enlarged
Marlborough residence, however, typically has only a very short
waiting list, or none at all, due to its much larger campus.
Just about everyone looks forward to retirement
as a time to relax and enjoy life. Often, though, we get too consumed
by daily responsibilities to fully relish the leisure time we've
worked so hard to gain. That's where New Horizons can make quite
a difference.
Wonderful senior living at non-denominational
New Horizons offers the perfect blend of convenience, flexibility,
and personal services. Many seniors at both of these fine suburban
Boston communities find that their independence increases after
moving in, because New Horizons takes care of all those burdensome,
time-consuming responsibilities. That allows residents to live life
to their fullest!
Assisted and Independent
living
in Boston, MA
New Horizons living means comfortable,
spacious, private apartments (no two are identical) which become residents'
individual, unique homes. Decorate with your own furnishings and style.
Welcome family and friends as you like. Come and go as you please!
One of the finest aspects of New
Horizons, and many other very good retirement communities, is the
wonderfully supportive new relationships residents develop among themselves,
and often with their caregivers. This wonderful opportunity manifests
itself in so many ways, with totally renewed feelings of looking forward
to the next day and the next activity, and really enjoying the company
of fellow residents.
Enjoy three gourmet meals in elegant
dining rooms, and share lots of social and recreational activities
with warm, interesting neighbors. Just leave the cooking, cleaning,
utilities, transportation, taxes, maintenance, and snow shoveling
to New Horizons. You have more important things to do!
There are always stimulating health
programs and workshops, crafts, bridge and poker clubs, indoor and
outdoor gardening, 24-hour front desk service, several well-stocked
libraries, and on-site health facilities and religious services, as
well as intergenerational programs, cultural events, local and Boston
area excursions, cocktail parties, and so much more. Do as much or
as little as you want - This is your home.
Independent
and assisted living in MA
Both not-for-profit New Horizons
retirement communities in Massachusetts offer a unique combination
of New England independent and assisted living arrangements, with
ready access to wide varieties of medical and social services. Through
constant attention to the needs of residents, New Horizons provides
warm, comfortable, completely private living spaces for those who
will live independently. They also provide that same personalized
support for those who may need assistance.
Each New Horizons offers very economical
and affordable Boston area independent and assisted living on beautifully
landscaped grounds. Most MA assisted living residents living at the
Marlborough campus come from Marlborough, Westborough, Southborough,
Framingham, Sudbury, Concord, Weston, Waltham, Wayland and Worcester.
Each lovely studio, one, or two bedroom well-lit apartment includes
an oversized private bathroom, mini-kitchenette, cable TV and local
telephone service, in-suite emergency call system, individually controlled
heating and air conditioning, and more. The
additional fee for a spouse or roomate in the same New Horizons independent
suite in Marlborough is only $100 per month, including three meals
per day, etc!
Some suites even feature skylights,
private patios, and walk-in closets. Residents' comfort and convenience
are of utmost importance because your home should make you happy.
We could not begin to include here
all the wonderful things that happen for residents living at New Horizons
retirement communities. They're just very special places where very
special people share dignified, refined, and friendly living.
Come visit - you should
feel right at home
If you are seeking greater independence
and would like to join us for lunch or dinner, please call (Marlborough:
508-460-5000 or Woburn: 781-932-8000). We would be delighted to welcome
you and show you why New Horizons really is home.
New residents of New Horizons - and
for that matter all other Framingham Massachusetts area assisted living
communities we know of - very often demonstrate greatly renewed zest
for life within a matter of months. This joie de vivre is particularly
noticeable for residents who have lived alone for some time before
coming to New Horizons. Very commonly, residents themselves say, "I'm
so happy! I wish I had come here years ago!"
All residents at New Horizons typically
have choices of dining hours and multiple selections for entrees and
side dishes, as well. Guests are always welcome to stop by for a delicious
home cooked meal any day of the week.
Most resident suites include mini-kitchenettes
for those who like to keep snacks in their personal refrigerator,
or who might enjoy a cup of tea or hot soup before retiring. New Horizons
also has full-sized homestyle kitchens available for those who might
occasionally want to bake cookies, or teach a grandchild how to make
Grandma's favorite spaghetti sauce or... Grandpa's Five-Alarm Chili!
Try us, you'll like us
When convenient, prospective residents
or their families often try to spend some time socializing at New
Horizons before deciding about moving in. Come meet and chat with
a few of the current residents in the cheerful lounges. Get
their firsthand opinions about the advantages they enjoy from living
at New Horizons. There are so many!
If you would like to give New Horizons
a short-term trial without the hassle and expense of moving or renting
furniture, consider the Vacation Program at our Marlborough location
(only). In this 30-day program, New Horizons provides a furnished
suite, weekly housekeeping and linen service, three delicious meals
served daily in an elegantly casual dining room, access to all activities
and special programs within the community, including the use of the
on-site Hemenway Health Club and indoor heated swimming pool. Also
included is a Standard Assisted Living Service Plan for one with services
provided by Care Solutions, the on-site certified and MEDICARE approved
home health agency.
Becoming a
New Horizons resident
Before a new resident moves in, there
are some simple forms to sign, and there are no long-term leases.
All New Horizons residents complete a Residence Agreement, however,
which may be canceled without penalty at any time with two months'
written notice, or promptly following a resident's passing.
A good retirement community will
help its residents be as independent as possible, while providing
ready assistance when needed. New Horizons is designed for seniors
who still enjoy an active lifestyle, and who also want convenient
abundant opportunities for socialization and friendship. All rates
include three gracious meals daily, plus housekeeping, utilities,
linens, local transportation, and a wide range of activites at this
very affordable Marlborough, MA assisted living center.
New Horizons is an open and accepting
community. We celebrate the diversity of our residents. Our differences
do not define us, but rather inform and enrich our overall living
experience. New Horizons is welcoming to people of all backgrounds,
and our current resident population reflects this central philosophy,
as people of different races, religions, geographic origins, financial
backgrounds and life experiences have come together to form one dynamic
community.
Respite
stays
For individuals in need of temporary
supportive services while recuperating from a hospital stay, or during
rehabilitation, or while a family member may be away, New Horizons
in Marlborough offers a respite program. This program is available
to individuals or couples, with a minimum 30-day stay and maximum
60-day stay.
Respite residents are provided furnished
suites with kitchenette, bath with walk-in shower, emergency response
system, and cable and local telephone service. The program fee includes
a Standard Assisted Living Service Plan for one, with personal care
provided by Care Solutions, the on-site certified and MEDICARE approved
home health agency. Additional care is always available, and a licensed
nurse is scheduled on site 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
Included are three delicious meals
served daily in an elegantly casual dining room, weekly housekeeping
and linen service, and all regular community activities, as well as
all special programs. There is a 140-seat stained-glass chapel and
religious services on site for all faiths.
Hearthstone
Alzheimer Care
Hearthstone Alzheimer Care, Ltd.
is a prominent, internationally-known organization that provides dementia
care in several states. It operates residences at both the Woburn
and Marlborough New Horizons. Occasionally, when the need arises,
residents may transfer from New Horizons to the Hearthstone residence
- typically in a relatively seamless transition.
New Horizons provides meals for Hearthstone
residents and, of course, provides the residents' individual suites.
It does not in any way, however, supervise or direct Hearthstone management
or caregivers, or the actual Hearthstone residential program, and
has no ownership interest.
Dr. John Ziesel, widely recognized
as a pioneer in the Alzheimer treatment field, co-founded and continues
to manage the Hearthstone programs. The main phone number of their
executive offices in Woburn, MA is 781-674-2884.
Hospice
Residence
Suites within New Horizons' main community are now
available for residents with terminal conditions which do not require
nursing home care. Many of these residents will, however, have supplemental
Hospice nursing, counseling and physician care through one of our
local licensed hospice agencies. In New Horizons' Hospice suites,
residents will have around the clock help with the activities of daily
living.
Residents in New Horizons' Hospice
suites typically seek to maintain their quality of life in their remaining
months or years. Palliative care is provided as needed by the caring
staffs of Winchester Home Care, and Care Solutions Inc., our on-site,
Medicare approved, home care agencies serving the residents of New
Horizons at Choate and New Horizons at Marlborough, respectively.
Another very important part of New
Horizons continuum of care is the special program for residents requiring
scheduled and spontaneous care on a 24/7 basis. This program is intended
to serve residents who do not need someone stationed full time at
their bedside, but who will need someone to respond almost instantly
from time to time at any hour to provide help with the activities
of daily living, but not medical services of a registered nurse, for
instance.
Residents in this program might typically
arrange for three hours daily of scheduled assistance and an additional
three hours a day for unscheduled "spontaneous" service.
All residents wear an emergency response bracelet which they routinely
use to alert their assigned caregivers.
