VisEn inks Asian distribution deal with Olympus

VisEn Medical Inc. has reached a distribution agreement with Tokyo-based Olympus Corp. to market its fluorescent molecular tomography (FMT) imaging systems in key Asian markets, company officials say.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Olympus has agreed to distribute the FMT imaging system in South Korea and Singapore beginning in January 2007, and later in China and Taiwan, according to the companies. The Japanese company has been VisEn's distributor of the FMT systems in Japan since September 2006.

VisEn's FMT imaging system is used in identifying biomarkers and observing molecular activities of certain diseases such as cancer, according to the company.

Founded in 2000, privately held VisEn Medical develops florescent-imaging technologies that originated from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
