U.S. Genomics expands with Cummings Properties

Woburn, MA - With its patented GeneEngine, U.S. Genomics, Inc. is reportedly changing the way scientists analyze and quantitate protein molecules. By detecting single molecules and analyzing DNA, RNA and protein molecules without amplification, the GeneEngine platform has the capability to accelerate researchers' abilities to develop new drugs and disease diagnostics.

Founded in 1997, this privately held developer of single molecule analysis technologies for the life sciences industry, recently relocated and expanded with Cummings Properties at 12 Gill Street, Woburn. After raising over $25 million in investments, U.S. Genomics moved to a 33,741 square foot custom-built facility where it will begin commercialization of its first set of single molecule detection products for DNA and RNA analysis.

Awarded a $7.5 million bio-defense contract by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in May, U.S. Genomics reports it is making major strides to reach its goal of being the world's preeminent provider of novel platform technology. Under the 18-month Homeland Security contract, the company will tailor its DNA mapping technology to detect and identify any airborne pathogen, including anthrax and smallpox.
The 12 Gill Street facility was created in a joint effort between Cummings Properties' design team, architects and construction staff, and U.S. Genomics' architects and scientists. The facility was designed to suit U.S. Genomics' growing technology needs including the instrumentation, software, methods, reagents, kits and consulting services associated with meeting the company's goals and objectives.

Steve Drohosky and Jed Geyerhahn represented Cummings Properties and David Burnstein and John Canepa represented U.S. Genomics in the transaction. "We are delighted U.S. Genomics chose to expand with Cummings Properties and remain a vibrant member of a thriving biotech community here in Woburn," noted Drohosky.

Cummings Properties is a Woburn-based real estate development company that operates more than eight million square feet of first class commercial space in 10 communities north and west of Boston.
