McLane Law Firm keeps expanding
Wicked Local - Woburn

In an economy that has many firms downsizing, McLane Law Firm is bucking the trend.

The New Hampshire-based business law firm entered the Massachusetts market in July 2008 when it leased 1,700 square feet of office space at Cummings Properties’ new TradeCenter 128 business complex in Woburn. Two years, one acquisition, and three expansions later, McLane’s Massachusetts branch now occupies 14,500 square feet and has a thriving practice.

Kelly Trudel, McLane’s director of business development, claims the challenging economy and the resulting shrinking business budgets are actually a factor in the firm’s success. She said, “Especially in light of the economy, businesses are starting to look at budget-friendly options, and our rate structure is preferable to those of Boston law firms.”

Another key to McLane’s growth is its location. According to Trudel, “TradeCenter 128 is highly visible and has convenient access to Routes 128 and 3, as well as I-93. Many of our clients are in Boston, but find it easy to stop by our office on their way to other places.”

The Woburn locale, an easy 45-minute highway commute from McLane’s Manchester, N.H. headquarters, allows McLane attorneys the flexibility of serving clients from any of its four offices. With more than 50 percent of the firm’s lawyers licensed in both states, a strategically located office was integral to McLane’s expansion into Massachusetts.

Trudel also notes McLane’s commitment to client service as a reason for its rising reputation. The firm frequently uses its 80-seat, in-house conference center to offer seminars on topics of interest to clients, such as small business funding, employment law, and the legal ramifications of social media.

The upscale image of TradeCenter 128, as well as the variety and quality of its amenities, contribute to McLane’s positive client relations. “The property is fantastic and the space is top notch,” said Trudel. Alluding to an upscale, on-site restaurant, she added, “We love Beacon Grille. We can take clients there and know it will be a great experience.” Access to Middlesex Superior Court, as well as on-site banking, childcare, and MBTA service to Wellington Station were also cited as attractive amenities.

Noting that McLane is still recruiting attorneys, while other firms are facing layoffs, Trudel feels confident about the firm’s place in the Massachusetts law industry. She said, “We’ve been outside the trend for the past few years. I definitely see continued growth in our future.”
