Hanke
to head BioVex commercialization

BioVex Inc., a Woburn-based
developer of cancer and infectious disease drugs and vaccines, has named
Tim Hanke as its vice president of commercial operations. He will be responsible
for moving the companys OncoVEX GM-CSF product to commercialization.
Hanke joins BioVex
having previously served as director of global commercial operations at
Genta Inc., a biopharmaceutical firm also dedicated to cancer treatment.
Prior to Genta, he worked for Chiron Biopharmaceuticals and Berlex Laboratories
Inc.
OncoVEX GM-CSF is
a cancer treatment, which BioVex calls an oncolytic vaccine,
made to destroy cancer cells without harming healthy cells. The treatment
is currently in a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) Phase 3 study for
melanoma, and the FDA has approved it for a Phase 3 study for head and
neck cancer, also under SPA.

In November, BioVex capped its Series F round of funding with $30 million
to add to its first $40 million of the round announced in March. The new
funding saw participation from new investors including Sectoral Asset
Management and Ysios Capital Partners, and the round was co-led by Morningside
Venture, Ventech and MVM Life Science Partners.
BioVex has its headquarters
in Woburn and maintains its research and development facility in Oxford,
England.
