Fresh City, LSG Sky Chefs ink joint venture

Needham-based franchise restaurant company Fresh Concepts Inc. has signed a licensing agreement with airline food service provider LSG Sky Chefs to bring its Fresh City restaurant food concept to LSG's in-flight meals program.

Fresh Concepts operates the Fresh City and Souper Salad Restaurants of Massachusetts chains.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Sky Chefs, which is the world's largest provider of in-flight catering, with 2002 revenue of $3.1 billion and deals with 260 airlines, will adapt menu items from Fresh City's restaurants. Sky Chefs will prepare the meals in its own kitchens at various airports throughout the country.

Fresh City Sky Chefs will collaborate to select signature sandwiches, salad wraps and bakery items.

Founded in 1997, Fresh City has 11 restaurants throughout Greater Boston and Hartford, including locations along the Massachusetts Turnpike and Bradley International Airport.

Fresh City restaurants feature fresh, fast-casual cuisine such as salads, wraps, stir-fry dishes and fruit smoothies.

LSG Sky Chefs is a subsidiary of Germany-based LSG Lufthansa Service Holding AG.
