Biotech Firm Grows in Woburn, California, and London
Media Release

Woburn, MA - London, San Carlos, California, and Woburn have at least one thing in common. BioTrove, Inc., which is headquartered in Woburn, is expanding in all three places.

The biotech company, which is collaborating to improve blood typing and to research genetic biomarkers for lung cancer, recently expanded and extended its lease with Cummings Properties at 10 and 12 Gill Street, Woburn, MA.

According to company officials, BioTrove advances life science and drug discovery research through two revolutionary micro- and nano-scale technologies: RapidFire™, which enables the acceleration of drug discovery and pipeline decisions, and OpenArray™, which advances genomic research in a wide range of life science fields, including agriculture, disease research, bio-defense and public health.

The company recently announced that it would be collaborating with BloodCenter in Wisconsin to improve the speed and accuracy of blood transfusions. The National Institute of Health recently awarded BioTrove and Gene Express, Inc. a two-year grant to create a standardized genetic profiling test for indicators of lung cancer risk.

With the recent developments driving its need for more space, BioTrove reportedly looked at multiple options before deciding to renew more than 33,000 square feet of lab and office space and add approximately 5,000 square feet in Woburn.

Albert A. Luderer, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer, said, "Even as we are expanding nationally and internationally, Cummings Properties is helping us to expand locally. This is the third expansion we have completed with them."

"Cummings Properties is pleased to support companies like BioTrove, which are developing breakthrough products that will speed up medical advances," said Mark Knittle, key accounts manager. He added that Cummings Properties leases more than 2 million square feet of lab space to more than 100 leading life science firms.

Knittle pointed out that BioTrove joins the Gill Street Life Sciences Cluster that includes, among others, Aeris Therapeutics, a bio-pharmaceutical company dedicated to the development and commercialization of therapies focused on lung disease, U.S. Genomics, pioneers in single molecule biology, and SRU Biosystems, a leader in highly sensitive labeled and label-free detection technologies.

Leasing/property manager Tony Spencer and Knittle represented Cummings Properties in the transaction. Andy Majewski of CBRE represented BioTrove in the search for space and lease negotiations.

The Gill Street Life Sciences Cluster is ideally located minutes from Interstates 93 and 95/128, the Anderson MBTA station, a hub for commuter rail and airport shuttle service, and TradeCenter 128, Cummings Properties' latest development. Numerous restaurants, retail stores and the Woburn Mall are close by.

Cummings Properties is a locally owned, Woburn-based real estate development company that has developed more than 9 million square feet of first-class commercial space in metropolitan Boston.
