Agion busy in Wakefield
Cummings Properties Media Release

Wakefield, MA - Agion Technologies, Inc. has been busy in 2009 signing with three different companies: Medegen Inc., DiFusion Technologies and Cummings Properties. Agion recently extended its lease for more than 13,000 square feet of biology and chemistry labs as well as office space at 60 Audubon Road with Cummings Properties.

Agion reportedly is a world leader in providing customized, natural, antimicrobial, silver-based solutions that continuously inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold and fungus. Agion's antimicrobial technology is used in consumer, industrial and healthcare industries and has been incorporated into a variety of products including cell phones, shoes, keyboards, water filters, medical catheters and ice machines. Agion's customers include many leading brands such as Motorola, PPG, Carrier, DuPont, Adidas, Scotsman, Stanley Bostitch and Oster.

Agion just reported a partnership with DiFusion Tehnologies to develop a new product to address microbial contamination especially at surgical sites. Last month, Agion began a partnership with Medegen Inc., a leading innovator in infusion therapy, to produce a line of antimicrobial protected needleless intravenous flow connectors. According to company officials, the MaxGuard™ Advanced Luer Activated Device featuring Agion® Antimicrobial Technology has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration, allowing it to be marketed as a medical device in the US.

Steve Costa, Cummings Properties' leasing/property manager who represented the firm in the lease transaction, confirmed that Agion had looked at other spaces, but Cummings Properties' ability to custom modify the space, the significant cost of moving and the affordable rate of the Audubon Road site swayed Agion's decision to extend its lease in place. "Agion has been with us for many years and we have been able to accommodate their needs as the company has evolved," he said, "and those things matter in this economy."

Amenities in the area include a nearby Boston Sports Club, the Sheraton Colonial Hotel and the proposed redevelopment plan, Meadow Walk at Lynnfield, which will offer retail, residential and recreational aspects, Costa explained. The complex at Audubon Road is located just minutes from Interstate 95/Route 128.

Woburn-based Cummings Properties leases and manages several buildings in Wakefield, which make up just a portion of its nearly 10 million square feet of prime commercial space in 10 communities around Boston. More than 100 life science leaders are said to be among its more than 2,000 clients that have been attracted by the flexibility, space expansion guarantee and in-house construction services offered by Cummings Properties.
